How Epoxy Floor Coatings Works
Epoxy coatings products should not be confused with epoxy paint products. Epoxy coating contains 100% solid epoxy while epoxy paint is a latex acrylic product that contains a small percentage of epoxy.
Epoxy floor coatings are unique flooring systems made up of equal parts of resins and hardeners. When these components are mixed they chemically react and adhere to the properly prepared concrete floor to create an amazingly strong plastic-like material that is more durable than untreated concrete.
Epoxy coatings are available in a variety of colors, textures and patterns. You can also mixed match colors to create a customized and one-of-a-kind color. Epoxy flakes, chips and quartz can also be added for more texture to create an anti-slip surface.
Epoxy flooring installation starts with the proper preparation of the concrete floor. A properly prepared concrete floor creates the most ideal flooring surface to allow the epoxy material to bond well and deliver all the benefits of epoxy coatings.
- All cracks and chips on the concrete floor should be repaired.
- Oil, grease and chemical stains as well as existing sealers should be removed so they do not interfere with the bonding process.
- Dust, dirt and debris must be swept off.
- Moisture on the concrete surface should be eliminated.
When the concrete surface is clean, diamond grinding is done to open the pores of concrete and remove all imperfections. The diamond grinding process will transform the concrete flooring in a porous and smooth surface that is ideal for epoxy installation.
After proper preparation of the concrete surface, epoxy coating is applied. Our expert epoxy coating installers will apply multiple layers of industrial-grade 100% solid epoxy up to 2mm thick. They will also create the decorate designs and patterns as required. The epoxy coating is then allowed to cure.
